Adobe has implemented new features, often AI-based, in many of its products and presented them at the Adobe Max 2024 event. With the large number of Adobe programs, this would mean many articles, but in order to give an overview of the new functions of the Adobe programs, I have put together a small overview here. This is not complete but contains important new functions of the individual Adobe programs.
Photoshop is getting even more powerful
Adobe Photoshop has a major update for the removal of distractions in the removal tool. Distraction Removal can be used to remove unwanted elements from a photo, such as unwanted people in the background of a photo- Distraction Removal automatically detects and removes cables and people and replaces the background with generated content.
The Generative Fill and Generative Expand features are now based on the latest Adobe Firefly image model to deliver realistic, lifelike results with more control than ever before and new detail, lighting, composition, and color for generated images. With the new “Generate Similar” feature, you can now get more variations of the image generated to find the perfect fit.
In Adobe Photoshop (beta), the Generative Workspace with generative AI allows you to explore more ideas in less time directly in Adobe Photoshop (beta). With Generative Workspace, you can brainstorm multiple concepts at once without waiting and use text prompts to quickly generate image sets. In addition, one can search for and reuse text inputs and images and generate new image sets while previous image sets are generated.
Adobe Substance 3D Viewer (Beta) provides a new way to view and edit 3D files. 3D files can now be added as Smart Objects and then edited directly in the Photoshop design.
Integrating generative AI into Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro introduces an entirely new way to use generative AI when editing videos with Generative Extend. Generative Extend uses Adobe Firefly’s generative AI to seamlessly add frames at the beginning or end of a video clip.
Improved graphic design in Adobe Illustrator
In Adobe Illustrator, Adobe has improved the main vector design workflows to give you more speed and performance. The new Objects On Path option makes it easy to attach, arrange, and move objects in your designs along any type of path. Advanced image tracing allows you to convert hand-drawn images and raster graphics into editable vectors for more accurate image tracing and easier editability with fewer anchor points. The mockup feature is now generally available, which allows you to create mockups for brand and apparel designs by placing artwork on top of images of real-world objects. Illustrator automatically adjusts the artwork to fit the curves and edges of the object.
New generative AI capabilities in Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign offers new generative AI features, such as Generative Expand and Text in Image, that allow AI image edits to be performed directly in the layout design. For designers working on scientific or technical publications, MathML is now available to add mathematical equations to designs with better visual quality and accessibility. InDesign documents can now also be exported to Adobe Express. This gives other people the opportunity to make minor changes to them, while keeping you in the general layout design.
Amazing photos, faster with Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Lightroom now offers Generative Removal in a generally available way. This feature provides improved selection and object detection for easier and more accurate distances. The new Quick Actions (Early Access) are intended to speed up workflows by suggesting edits specifically tailored to a photo. With Content Credentials (Early Access), you can now attach your name, social media handles, and a list of edits to photos with a digital signature linked to the Content Authenticity Initiative. In addition, there are even more workflow updates, including performance improvements, additional HDR support, and Smart Albums.
3D Content Creation for 2D Designers with Project Neo (Beta)
Project Neo is a new product from Adobe, currently in the beta phase. Project Neo is designed to offer a whole new approach to creating 3D content on the web, especially for designers who typically work with 2D design apps like Photoshop and Illustrator. With Project Neo, it allows the user to create and edit 3D shapes and graphics in the browser. With Neo, it allows variations of a design to be edited and refined quickly and non-destructively. Created with Project Neo can be opened in Adobe Illustrator as vectors and edited further.
Generative AI for video with the Adobe Firefly video model
Adobe now offers a new Generate Video (Beta) module in the Adobe Firefly web app. With “Generate Video” it allows you to generate video clips based on text specifications.
Innovation in Adobe Express, the fast and easy app that lets you create anything
Adobe Express is an app or platform that allows you to create social media posts, videos, flyers, and more.
Adobe Express now offers:
